General info:

Easy spot for teaching kitesurfing, I totally reccommend as a first spot for working.
Good relation between kite schools and instructors on the beach.

Most of the schools they will provide you the resident visa. But this cost money to them. So before coming to work here I will make clear how much they are going to charge if you leave before the seasons ends.

As almost every kitesurfing school, if you come back next season you will get more comissions.

Most of the school have local kitesurfing assistants and rescue boat, and most of them love candys and chocolate.🤘🏿🤘🏿

All I have hear about this school are good things. Still doing some research about it.

4 instructors

You work from 8am to 5pm every day (it’s on the contract). After teaching you have to take care of the kites and pack them properly in the school.
Schedule of kitesurfing lessons: 3h morning +2h afternoon. Possibility of teaching over lunch.

Amount of teaching hours per month:

Winter: ??

Summer: 40h (not that many students).

Not easy to get them. You can be kiting but always someone has to be in the school.

Even if you are 4 instructors you can not be travelling if there is no wind. You have to be there.

Salary/payment:

20% comission on lessons. So you will be making 9€ for private hour but if the student buy a kiting packege you will mske less, around 7’8€/h/1 student. And around 13€/h/2 students.

Comissions/tips:

Not comissions on kite sales. Normaly no tips.

Free basic accommodation. Food included.

Visa:

They will pay for your working visa.

Kitesurfing Lanka:

General information:

Great resort and amazing crew. It has the best barmans ever and great beach parties. For me it has been an amazing experience. I worked here 5 month and I loved it.

The kite manager is really helpful and nice. He allows you to teach your way and if you need help he will be there.

You will be teaching most of the time 1 or 2 students. But sometimes you will be teaching 3 or 4 at the same time.

You just have to teach kiting, the kitesurfing assistants will take care of loading the gear in the lorry and to have everything ready on the beach. And when you finish teaching you just have to pack the gear with your student.

Kitesurfing assistants and manager are always around and really helpful.

Location:

It’s in front of the ocean and to go teaching you will go with the lorries (15 min).

Number of instructors:

When I worked there we were 6 main instructors and 2 to 4 back up. 1 pro rider who is on charge of Vella island trips.

Kitesurfing gear:

Zian kites and Nobile and Lieweboards boards.

Instructor working schedule:

You just have to be ready for your lesson at the school to go with the lorry or show up directly on the beach. If you don’t have students you can do whatever you want.

Schedule of kitesurfing lessons:

Winter: 3-4h in the afternoons.

Summer: 3h morning- 2h afternoon. If we are really bussy we will work at lunch time (it happened to me twice per month). You will have some days and afternoons no students. So you can enjoy kiting in front of the resort in the ocean.

Amount of teaching hours per month:

40h (winter time)

80h (summer time)

Days off:

They are really chill about it. You just have to tell the manager in advance. In summer time, if you don’t have students and there is space on the boat you can join the trips to Vella island. You can also have some days off and go to the other resort in summer time that KSL has in Talaimmanar, Vayu. (One of the best kitesurfing spots that I have seen in my life😍)

Salary/payment:

Is the bisiest school in Kalpitiya, so it has a lot of students. Around 30% comission. So it’s a big difference when you work with 1 student than when you work with 2 or 3 students…  Even if instructors work the same amount of hours salaries are different.

Winter: 800-1100€/month

Summer: 1000-2000€/month.

Comissions/tips:

Comission on kite sells. The guest are most of the time european so do not expect that many tips.

Accomodation/food:

Free basic accomodation at the resort or outside of the camp. You have to pay your food. You have the option of eating at the amazing food at the resort (it will cost you 10€/day).

Visa:

You will first have to pay your turist visa on line (35 euros). And then they will arrange everything for your resident/working visa.

Other:

To work better as a team for me the best was sharing comissions on kiting sells. I really apreciate the meetings with French cheese, chorizo and drinks that the kitesurfing manager and owners will organize.
